Book reviews A Soul’s Final Journey Series

Everyone Calls

Me Paige

  Raymond Peter

Steven, you had me at “Choppers, naked swims, and emotional gut-punches.” 🏍💔🏞
A Soul’s Final Journey isn’t just a title, it’s a therapy session disguised as a road trip with a soundtrack of roaring Choppers and splashing at Rattlesnake Pond. You took grief, guilt, and identity, strapped them to a motorcycle, and sent readers careening through New England with Andrew Paige Turner as he digs through buried memories that refuse to stay buried.
It’s raw. It’s fearless. And it’s weirdly relatable. Who hasn’t been blindsided by the past while just walking down the street, minus the ruthless college sophomore and naked pond swims (…probably)? You don’t just write; you time-travel readers back to the moments that make or break a person. And the result? A book that sticks with you long after you’ve put it down, like the smell of leather and engine oil after a long ride.

Steven R. James’ debut is about one person’s life at a critical time. The passage from adolescence into adult is one where every emotion, incident, and even the smallest of details can be heightened.
Paige’s life has already ended, but between life and death is the road trip that leads him to where acceptance rather than tolerance is experienced.

Set at a small college in northern New England, Paige’s life revolves around the people one would expect: his roommate Josh, his girlfriend Patty, and the temperamental Michelle. But Paige is leading a double life already, with a most unusual man named Antonin.

The scenes of campus life, keg parties and the inevitable clash of people never having been away from home are familiar. Antonin, or Tony helps Paige figure out that part of himself that was never quite right. All the while, fear of being outed, and the retribution that would come from being gay, or even slightly suspected of it, leaves Paige trying to keep his worlds from colliding.

Through this, Paige is also introduced to John, the mentor who would help Paige stabilize and allow him to figure out who he is. The story touches on spirituality, but not religion, and while the story is told, loudly, graphically, and angrily at times these are all things any reader can identify with.

This book shows promise of what James will bring us next.

This story follows the life of Andrew Paige Turner, beginning with his first year of collegein Maine and moving forward throughout his life, describing his loves, tragedies, and hopes. It is set in Maine, and the beauty of the landscape is described in detail by the author, as well as local haunts that are still frequented today.
It’s so well written using Paige’s perspective about the events that occurred. The story is
told through retrospect as Paige revisits scenes from his past and reevaluates the
consequences of his actions. You experience a realm of emotions as you follow Paige
and consider the overwhelming love of his loyal friends and the devastation caused by
his enemies.
This is a wonderfully written story with unexpected twists and turns. I commend author
Steven James for this excellent contribution to the literary world.

“The sensual tension is well-written. The romantic scenes are inspiring, naughty, sweet, and visual. There is enough heat to inflame, followed by pure romance – an utterly ripe combination. If you are seeking a great read with raw spice, laughs, visional captivity, guilt-harrowing strength, many facets leading to maturity, and paintings of feelings, I HIGHLY enjoyed and recommend.”

Amazing read from Steven R James. The story touched so many emotions. Had a hard time putting the book down. Can’t wait to see what James puts out next.

I loved this book, It gave a unique look back on the main character (paige’s) life. It follows Paige and his father figure John through portals and helps Paige to see what life events affected his choices and feelings of quilt. It’s a love story and a story of loss. Full of surprises. I highly recommend..
